What would you think is harder to play on an instrument, speed metal or jazz?

Disclaimer: I am not bashing speed metal. In my opinion technique is the basic of speed metal. In jazz, technique does play a part but it is a much smaller part. In jazz your main goals are not simply reading music then replicating exactly what the music score says but goes deep into the style and requires the player to play the piece 75% with style and making the instrument vocal (exaggerating notes as the vocal chords would naturally) and 25% what it says on the sheet music. I’m not saying speed metal has no feel or style to it, but I think jazz’s style takes the most intimacy with the music and is the hardest style to learn.
Lara Croft: I forgot to mention that I do think that in all styles you can do your own thing with a song or progression or whatever; in rock many solos are more of improvised ideas than specific riffs, but coming from someone who plays both rock/blues and jazz I still think jazz is harder overall.

jazz. speed metal is just a lot of notes in a small time signature. nothing more, nothing less

Jazz requires impeccable timing skills. Speed metal leaves so much room for error.

well theyre both pretty hard i guess i play piano and theyre both hard but i agree with u that jazz is harder 2 play.

jazz positions are a lot harder and improvising is really challenging over jazz chords. speed metal is equally as challenging but in a different aspect as the style and picking are entirely different. and then there’s jazz fusion, make way for monsters like Holdsworth.

The hardest style to learn hands down in the hardest style to be able to learn hands down theres so much you have to do that isnt simply written down in the music.

The tenor sax jazz because you have an overall musical aspect.
The piano and bass playing the time and also play speed metal on the same notes for minutes without changing just going really fast that no one would know if you can go so fast on the same notes for minutes without changing just going really fast on the time and also play jazz because you hit wrong note choice.
