Is the older guitar the more highly desired between new and old? Time will only improve the sound of a well made guitar. As a guitar ages, so does the sound; delicate  is the word for a vintage guitar as the wood changes over time.
What does it mean to have a vintage guitar.

 

There are other factors that matter when you are thinking about a vintage guitar. If a guitar was made only in a short run and color, this makes it more scarce and raises the price, generally speaking. There are various models of Martin guitars that are scarcebecause they were made in short runs of an individual design.

 

The Les Paul Gold Top guitar had a particularly sought after finish and golden color which also aged well. With the Fender Stratocaster the quality was more sought after during an earlier time of the companys history. Famous guitarists lend their name and endorse special guitars known as signature guitars. Although not making it a vintage guitar, the endorsement does raise the value. If a guitar was owned by someone famous, that of course makes it more prized and increases its value.The guitar may also be associated with a particular event, say Woodstock or some other huge event. A guitar can be collectable if it is also highly playable and has a great sound, regardless of the age.

 

Some of the older guitar amplifiers are also considered to be collectable and vintage. Marshall,Vox and Fender amplifiers are prized for their mellow  sounds. These amps are tube based are have a unique tonal quality, not achievable by solid state circuitry.

 

A guitar can be as much of a work of art as any other prized object. To own a vintage guitar is to own a piece of modern music history.The history of the guitar adds to its enjoyment and collectability. The sound of rock and roll itself are contained in these instruments.

 

Some guitars need some loving restoration and play and sound like the original did many years ago.
