Place your third finger on the fourth string third fret, your second finger on the third string second fret and your first finger on the second string first fret. Also need an open string under that. now that you have your fingers on the strings you where told to you might feel awkward don’t worry this is normal for beginners it’s because it has the largest strech for your fingers. Well the higher the frets on your guitar the smaller the distance between the frets becomes. So keep the same f major 7 and slide it down the guitar and find a fret that feel comfortable around the 9th or 10th fret is normally i good spot to start. Go down the Fret until you get to a comfortable finger distance where the frets are allot closer but going to far down will result in making it more diffcult because they are to close. once you have the position best for you hold it until it feel good then move down the frets of the guitat until you get to the first fret where we began. Once you have mastered the F major 7 you will be able to apply the same technique and skill to any chord and learn it without feeling overwhelmed.

Perfect Pitch Theory

The important question, which was never given enough attention until now, is not that of “what?” but the question of “how?”. How is it that a small proportion of people are able to notice a supposed elusive “quality” of each note, which most of us cannot? How does the ability work and what are the “qualities” that people say separate the notes? Most people can perform quite amazing feats of aural recognition, such as recognizing the characteristics of many different friends’ voices and some great musicians do not have perfect pitch. So, why can’t we hear the tone qualities between different notes?

Firstly, there are some fundamental principles of acoustics, which we need to know to answer these questions. To start with, tonal sounds from any source contain fundamental frequencies of the notes being played as well as harmonics of those frequencies. Harmonics are also called overtones and all tonal sounds contain them. Even if a single sine wave tone is generated and output to a speaker, there will be harmonics in the sound. This is because of the physical nature of waves to create other waves. The harmonics of a tone are multiples of the fundamental frequency. The sound you hear when a single A440 note is played is a combination of 440 Hz, 880 Hz, 1320 Hz, 1760 Hz, 2200 Hz, etc. Usually the fundamental (440 Hz) has the most energy, the second harmonic (880 Hz) has less, and the general trend is a decrease in volume as you count up the harmonics, although some instruments do take exception to this. The second harmonic as also called the “first overtone”. This can get confusing so I am keeping with the terminology of harmonics.

Each instrument has its own harmonic levels, or “spectrum”. A clarinet has weak even harmonics, for example, with stronger odd ones and a strong fundamental. Examining the spectrum of a particular guitar, however, reveals that its 6^th and 7^th harmonics are louder than the 3^rd, 4^th and 5^th.

It is obvious that the harmonic spectra should be different. The sound of the instruments are completely different. The timbre, or quality, of a tonal sound comes from its harmonic spectrum, as well as any noise parts (non tonal). Getting back to the subject of perfect pitch, we know that musicians who have perfect pitch hear differences in “quality”, we might even say timbre, between the notes. We know a composer might choose the key of E flat for a sorrowful piece and F sharp for something more jubilant. However, we know that the instrument determines the harmonic spectra of the notes so how does this fit in with perfect pitch? Well, the shocking, but obvious truth is that there is no physical difference in ”timbre” between the different notes. In fact, if there were, we would have measured it decades ago and there would be no mystery surrounding perfect pitch. The differences between notes is only perceived by people, because of the particular resonances and frequency response of the human ear.

Like a microphone, the human ear can hear some frequencies better than others and contains certain parts, which are able to resonate strongly at particular frequencies. The ear will respond differently to the various harmonic components of any tonal sound. We hear some frequency components as louder than others when they actually have the same loudness.

The response does not differ much between people and can be seen on a common Equal Loudness curve. The ear is most sensitive at 4000 Hz and a sound at 30 Hz has to be almost one million times as powerful as one at 4 kHz to be perceived the same.

The resonances of the ear are a result of the combination of resonating parts. The Auditory canal has a resonance of 3000 Hz. Other considerations are the vibration of the eardrum, the bones in the middle ear, and the complex behavior of the cochlea.

Of course, the equal loudness response of the ear is only part of the story of human hearing. The ear is always exposed to many different frequencies and there are many complex phenomena at work. For example, the extent to which one frequency is masked by another depends greatly on the pitch of these frequencies.

In summary, the perceived difference in harmonic spectra between the notes of the scale is at the root of perfect pitch. On the one hand, there is the physical harmonic spectrum of a tonal sound. Then there is a perceived spectrum resulting from the response of the ear. People who have perfect pitch are able to hear the harmonic resonances coming form the frequency response of the ear. The main reason that perfect pitch is so rare is that we tend to fixate on the fundamental pitch of the notes and, as musicians, the harmonics are not regarded with as much importance.
